announcing Someday School!
welcome!
Our pilot testing of the asynchronous (not real-time) Someday School class will begin with the start of the new liturgical year on December 1st, 2024. On that date, this post on the main page will be replaced with one that has a scripture and discussion questions for the first Sunday of Advent (adapted from Community of Christ’s “Sacred Space” resources) and a section from Sharing in Community of Christ.
If you’d like to join us on December 1st, you can read more about what we’re up to on the About page and then read the instructions for joining Someday School on the Join page. In the meantime, we’ve included a sample scripture below so that once you join, you can see what Someday School will look like (or even practice leaving your own comments).
Doctrine and Covenants 162:7d
The call to respond is urgent. Look to the needs of your own congregations, but look also beyond your walls to the far-flung places where the church must go. Each disciple needs a spiritual home. You are called to build that home and care for it, but also to share equally in the outreaching ministries of the church. In that way the gospel may be sent to other souls also yearning for a spiritual resting place.
This verse comes from a section that was added to the Doctrine and Covenants over twenty years ago! What has changed since then, and how might we read this verse differently?
What does it mean to you for a congregation to look “beyond [its] walls”?
Where have you found “spiritual home[s]” and “spiritual resting place[s]” in your life?
