March-May Bonus Readings
Community of Christ will be holding its 2025 World Conference at the end of May and beginning of June. In the weeks leading up to the conference, the resolutions that will be discussed and debated there will be available here on the Someday School website. Taking some time to read over and annotate these resolutions will let you stay aware of what’s being discussed as a whole church—and share your thoughts on what direction the church should go in.
This Week’s Lectionary Scripture
Second Sunday of Easter1
Today is the second Sunday of the Easter season. The Easter season continues for fifty days and concludes with the Day of Pentecost.
Revelation 1:4-8
John to the seven churches that are in Asia:
Grace to you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come and from the seven spirits who are before his throne, and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth.
To him who loves us and freed us from our sins by his blood and made us a kingdom, priests serving his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
Look! He is coming with the clouds;
every eye will see him,
even those who pierced him,
and all the tribes of the earth will wail on account of him.So it is to be. Amen.
“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.
- This letter sought to encourage early Christian believers to remain faithful and to remind them that God was with them in their struggles, offering hope and assurance. What encouragement would help you in your struggles to remain faithful today?
- At that time Christians were being persecuted for refusing to participate in the popular practice of emperor worship What individuals or groups do you see being persecuted today as the early Christians were persecuted? What would you write to them that would encourage them and bring them hope?
- As Christ’s followers, the people in the churches serve a priestly role in God’s kingdom as mediators between God and humanity. How do Community of Christ members serve as mediators between God and humanity?
This Week’s Text from Sharing in Community of Christ
We Share Whole-life Stewardship 2
Share Generously
Principle 4. Tithing is a spiritual practice. It is a gift of thanksgiving to God in response to God’s generous gifts to us. When we share our tithes, the church can spread joy, hope, love, and peace around the world so others can experience God’s generosity, too.
- What has motivated you to give at the various stages of your life: child, youth, young adult, adult, and mature adult?
Save Wisely
Principle 5. Saving is a way to prepare for the future. It gives us the chance to extend our love and create a better tomorrow for our families, friends, the church’s mission, and the world.
- What examples of expected and unexpected circumstances might you save for?
Spend Responsibly
Principle 6. Responsible spending is a commitment to live a healthy, happy life together with God and others. The teachings of Jesus challenge us to make lifestyle choices that are often countercultural.
- How do you find the right balance between needs and wants?
